College Scholarships

ended with the 2015-16 academic year.

However, the Convention has provided significant funding for the establishment of the Luther H. Butler Scholarships for NC Baptist Students managed by the North Carolina Baptist Foundation. While these scholarships will be available to students from the 6 universities traditionally funded by the old scholarship programs, it will be different in significant ways.

  1. The new scholarships will be competitive. Scholarship recipients will be chosen based upon academic achievement, Christian character and church involvement, and overall commitment to their communities and families. In the past, all applicants that applied for the NC Baptist Scholarship program that met membership and GPA requirements received a small grant toward their education. The new scholarship will not be awarded to every applicant.
  2. The new scholarships will be significantly larger than in the past. Awards will range from $2000-$6000 per year, as opposed to the $500 scholarships offered last year to all qualifying applicants. Need will be taken into account with regard to the award amounts, so students will have to submit a copy of their FAFSA with the scholarship application.
  3. There will be fewer scholarships awarded. In order to make the awards more significant, the number of scholarships will be reduced so that the amount could be increased.
  4. The scholarships will remain available only to students of churches affiliated with the Baptist State Convention of NC, and will only be awarded to students attending the 6 universities named in the scholarship guidelines.

Information about the Luther H. Butler Scholarships for NC Baptist Students and the process for application can be found on the website of the NC Baptist Foundation: Please note that all applications must be submitted electronically.

PLEASE NOTE: Because the scholarships are competitive and will require review and discussion by the Foundation’s scholarship committee, the deadline for application is much earlier than under the former grant/scholarship program. Applications must be submitted by February 15, 2016 for the 2016-17 academic year – no exceptions!
