Our times of worship and learning from God's Word are important to the Annual Meeting. We welcome each of these speakers and look forward to hearing from them throughout the meeting. Each speaker is a humble servant of God dedicated to serving North Carolina Baptists and to impacting lostness.
President, International Mission Board
David Platt was elected president of the International Mission Board in August 2014. He is deeply devoted to Christ and His Word, and he is passionate about disciple-making. Prior to becoming IMB president, Platt pastored The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, Ala. Platt earned a B.A. in journalism from the University of Georgia. He earned masters degrees in divinity and theology and a doctorate in philosophy from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served there as dean of chapel and assistant professor, and he also served as staff evangelist at Edgewater Baptist Church in New Orleans. Platt has written several books: Radical, Radical Together, Follow Me and Counter Culture. He is the founder of Radical, a ministry devoted to disseminating disciple-making resources so the gospel might be made known to the ends of the earth. Platt and his wife Heather have four children: Caleb, Joshua, Mara Ruth and Isaiah.
Timmy D. Blair Sr.
President, Baptist State Convention of North Carolina
Pastor, Piney Grove Chapel Baptist Church, Angier, NC
Timmy D. Blair Sr. has served as pastor of Piney Grove Chapel Baptist Church in Angier since 1987 except for a one year pastorate in South Carolina. Other churches he has served include, Bolton Baptist in Bolton and Salem Baptist in Aynor, S.C. Blair led Piney Grove Chapel to have the highest number of baptisms in the Little River Association for a number of years and was recognized by the convention in 2000 for being in the top 10 for baptisms in its size category. Blair has previously served our convention on the Board of Directors, the Committee on Committees, and the Program, Place and Preacher Committee, on which he served as chairman in 2009. He attended Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute, received his undergraduate degree from Luther Rice Seminary and earned his Master of Divinity from Luther Rice University. He and his wife Wendy have two married sons and two grandchildren.
Milton A. Hollifield Jr.
Executive Director-Treasurer, Baptist State Convention of North Carolina
Milton A. Hollifield Jr. was elected executive director-treasurer of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina on April 11, 2006. Since 1993 Hollifield has served on the Convention staff, beginning in the former Evangelism Division, then becoming executive leader for the Mission Growth Evangelism Group in 1998. Hollifield served as associate pastor of West Asheville Baptist Church and pastor of First Baptist Church in Stanley. Hollifield served as director of missions for Gaston Association for two years prior to joining the BSCNC staff. Hollifield and his wife, Gloria, have one son, a daughter-in-law and two grandsons. Hollifield received a bachelor's degree from Mars Hill College and a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
