John R. Gordy
John R. Gordy began his ministry with the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina as Strategy Coordinator on February 1, 2016. Before joining the Strategy Focus Team, John and his wife, Pat, served over 34 years with the International Mission Board, in Africa, East Asia and Middle East.
John accepted Christ at the age of 12, during a revival service at his home church in Chattanooga, TN. Later in life, he recommitted his life to Christ after high school graduation, sensing God’s call into full-time ministry. One of his favorite verses is Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.”
John earned the BA degree from Samford University in Birmingham, AL; the M.Div. degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY; and the D. Min. degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans, LA. While on the mission field, he earned the Ph.D. degree in Missiology from the Northwest University of South Africa.
John and Pat have three adult children and 10 grandchildren. John loves to cycle and play tennis.
